Systematic organization: Start-up Cable-Sherpa eliminates cable chaos at e-charging stations

Electromobility is on the rise, and more and more people are considering switching to electric cars for private use. But while the future of electric mobility is promising, new challenges are emerging – especially at home, in apartment buildings or underground garages, where the e-charging cable can quickly become a tripping hazard. That was enough of an impetus for the three tech-savvy Austrians – Helmut Kastler, Erwin Kunst and Andreas Affenzeller – to develop a smart cable management system for e-charging stations with their new start-up Cable-Sherpa. The three founders are presenting the system for the first time in Germany at Power2Drive in Munich.

Thanks to Cable-Sherpa, the annoying cable chaos around electric car charging stations is finally a thing of the past. The innovative cable management system enables convenient charging with just one hand movement and at the same time ensures greater safety and accessibility.

From the garage in Austria to the German market

It all started in May 2023 with an idea from mechatronics engineer Helmut Kastler (41), who, as an electric car owner himself, stumbled across the cable problem in his garage. Together with his friends and entrepreneurs Erwin Kunst (42) and Andreas Affenzeller (42), he started an initial exchange of ideas to look for suitable solutions to the problem. No sooner said than done, the three friends developed a market-ready product – the Cable-Sherpa, a smart cable management system for more order at the e-charging station.

From chaos to cable order

“As an e-car owner, I quickly realized that the charging cable on the floor is quite impractical. This was motivation enough for me to get my friends Erwin Kunst and Andreas Affenzeller on board and work with them on an innovative solution to the problem. That was the starting signal for the development of Cable-Sherpa,” says Helmut Kastler, CPO and co-founder of Cable-Sherpa. Many years of technical experience and product design know-how quickly led the founding trio to a simple and unique solution: a flexible support arm for wall mounting, which serves as an ideal cable holder and thus solves the cable chaos. “I knew right from the start, partly due to my experience as a manager in battery development, that complex problems don’t always have to be solved with complicated technical solutions,” says Helmut Kastler.

No knots, no stress!

Cable-Sherpa is a smart cable management system for electric car charging cables that is mounted on the wall in the garage or carport. The practical cable holder made of electrolytically galvanized steel in black or white is compatible with all standard wallboxes and e-charging cables. The new Cable-Sherpa can also be extended and rotated and automatically returns to its resting position when in use. “During product development, it was important to us that the Cable-Sherpa is easy for everyone to use. The e-charging process can be started with just one hand movement,” explains Andreas Affenzeller, CTO and co-founder. The Austrian-made and patent-pending cable management system supports e-charging cables up to 7 meters and thus offers a range of 5.5 meters. Thanks to the practical one-handed operation, Cable-Sherpa (€399) makes it particularly easy to start the charging process. A practical additional benefit: hands and clothes stay clean! The innovative cable management system also ensures greater accessibility around e-charging stations. This benefits not only people with disabilities, but also passers-by who walk past an e-charging station in apartment buildings or underground parking garages.

The Cable-Sherpa is now available in the online store at cable-sherpa.com. In addition to the necessary installation material, e-car owners can also order practical accessories such as e-charging cables or a wall bracket for storing the vehicle’s plug end.

“In the first phase of market entry, we are initially concentrating on the DACH region, but in a further expansion step we are also planning to open up the entire European region,” says CCO and co-founder Erwin Kunst.

Innovation with a view to the future

The founding trio of Cable-Sherpa looks to the future with confidence. In view of the forthcoming changes, in which no new cars with combustion engines are to be registered in all EU states from 2035, the demand for electric vehicles will increase rapidly. This also means an increasing need for innovative solutions such as the cable management system from Cable-Sherpa.

“Our aim is for everyone to be able to benefit from our practical cable management system Cable-Sherpa ,” says Helmut Kastler, co-founder of the Austrian start-up, summarizing the plans for the future.
